Hello and Welcome to Sweet Inspire!

My name is Lauren Adeline.  Am I a culinary rockstar?  Not sure, but I do like to sing and dance while cooking and baking.  If this picture doesn’t scare you, then nothing else on this site will.

Sweet Inspire is simply my online cookbook collection.  Well…it is mostly baked goods, but once you create a great cake recipe, why lose it right?  Early in college this former omnivore, mostly carnivore became a vegan.  Literally overnight.  Instead of eating processed boxed meals that I couldn’t afford anyway, I learned how to cook.  I expanded my palate, researched the food industry, became a volunteer urban gardener and helped initiate vegan options in the school cafeteria.  My vegan experienced changed my life in a very positive way.  When I met my lovely husband (Jonathan), we met in the middle with food.  We’re both vegetarians who try to eat as local as possible.

I was a horrible baker as a vegan, but appreciated those who baked for me, especially those who didn’t make it sound like it was inconvenient!  It was tough to go to college outings and rarely have something sweet to eat.  I have many vegan friends and love spoiling them (or using them as taste-testers) with my baked goods.  It’s my preferred way to bake right now, because I lack pet chickens and a disposable income for extra local eggs and butter.  Most of my recipes can successfully use either, in case you do have chickens or cows.

Blooming Sweetspire Shrubs

When I began Sweet Inspire, I was teaching culinary classes and had just finished certification to become a Saint Louis Master Gardener.  Sweet Inspire was named after the Sweetspire shrub that blooms in July.  I had to remember the genus name (Itea) for my master gardener tests and…it’a long story, but I did so by changing the common name in my mind and the name stuck with me.

As of May 2011, I will be enrolled as a culinary student at the Natural Gourmet Institute of NYC.  Hoorah! I so look forward to expanding my knowledge and sharing it.

I love swapping kitchen stories, recipes and cookies, which is the reason I began this blog! Feel free to link to the site, leave comments or contact me directly at  I would love to hear from you!

All of my recipes and photographs are original, unless posted otherwise.  Please refrain from using the images in your own work without my permission.

Thank you for visiting! Eat more!
